Daniel, a French architect, and Nora, his artist girlfriend, enter the world of Nikolai Roerich, the Russian artist who made the Himalayan foothills in India his home. While a painter of note, Roerich is also suspected to have been a double agent for the Americans and the Russians in India. Nora and Daniel meticulously reconstruct the many expeditions undertaken by the Roerich family in Central Asia and uncover astonishing details of the rivalry between the Russian and British Empires for the control of Central Asia and Tibet. Unfolding in the historical climes of the Great Game, After the Deluge throws up startling questions. What role did Nikolai Roerich, a Russian who was friends with both F.D. Roosevelt and Jawaharlal Nehru, have to play in the Great Game? And why does he remain such an important figure for numerous fringe groups and the government of the Russian Federation?
