Jhandu (Tagetes erecta) or Gheda Phool is an ornamental flower called Marigold, cultivated in India primarily for decorative and religious ritual purposes. It is used in Ayurvedic medicine both internally and for external use.
In Ayurveda, marigold is used to reduce vitiated Pitta and Kapha Doshas. Both the leaf and the flowers of the plant are used. The flowers are used in Ayurvedic treatment for improved vision. The entire plant is found to contain:
- Limonene
- Linalyl acetate
- Ocimene
- Tagetone
- Linalool
- N-nonyl aldehyde
The flowers contain lutein esters of myristate, mono myristate, and dipalmitate. The fresh petals are rich in hydroxy flavones and tagetin. Lutein is especially beneficial and is used widely in Ayurvedic medicine for eyes and vision improvement. Research has found that lutein is a good herbal treatment for relieving dryness because of exposure to too much strong light. This is not an uncommon cause of most cases of vision strain and fatigue.
How to Use
- 1 tablet twice daily or as directed by the Physician.
